What Is Execution Governance?

Execution Governance is the set of runtime controls, policies, validations, and evidence mechanisms that determine whether a decision may execute. It is governance applied at the moment of action — not the moment of decision, not the moment of approval, not the moment of audit.

It is real-time, structural, and produces evidence as a side effect of every commit attempt.

Execution Governance is the discipline — the practice (and emerging governance category) that decides what may execute. It is distinct from governed execution (the outcome it produces) and evidence at execution (the proof it generates). The discipline governs the act; the outcome is execution operating under it; the evidence is the record that it did.

Most Governance Categories Stop Before Action

The existing enterprise governance categories all reason about systems before or after the act. They describe the rules, the models, the data, or the workflow — but they exit before the commit boundary.

Governs information lineage, quality, and access.

AI Governance

Governs how the model is trained and behaves.

Model Governance

Each of these is necessary. None of them governs the act itself.

Execution Governance is governance of action.

Why It Matters

Many operational failures occur after approval — in the architectural space between the decision and the act. Each industry expresses the same structural failure mode through different artifacts.
